"Mum Not Geeky"
That is my code name on the computer. My children and often technical assistance personal cringe when I start a question with "I only want to......"
It is not my fault I was born in the fifties, and that I left full time work before computers were in full use within the workplace. I could however use a PABX telephone exchange or a gestetner copier and I even knew how to send a telegram. Most of these instruments are not heard of nowadays. So I am not technophobic just slightly technical illiterate.
The obvious question is why I would want to know how to do techky geeky things on the computer. Well computers are really good fun things and it is also possible, I have been told to earn some considerable amounts of money with them...even apparently even us non tecky people. Sorry I have to slightly disagree with that...There are times I struggle big time!
However when I think back over the last two or so years I have come along way.....I am even writing blogs now and they no longer disappear into cyber space! (Well most times!). One of the more frustrating aspects is the inability of people who have a good understanding of computers to come back to the basics. For them the basics is not where to find the on/off switch it is more advanced than that. They forget a time where they too had to look for the switch!
About two years ago I had the opportunity to attend an internet marketing seminar and the universe conspired for me to go. It was very exciting and lots of intense energy was in the room. A vast majority of what was being said made no sense to me at all, I hadn't heard of half of the terms and was not sure I wanted to. Considering that at 46 I decided to become a natural therapist and manged to work my way through Anatomy and Physiology, nutrition, chemistry and many other hard core subjects, this computer speak was even more strange and overwhelming.
